At Eco Green Group, we’ve always believed that true sustainability starts with people. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce the appointment of Joanne Tierney as our new Head of People & Culture; a role that reflects our commitment to nurturing the wellbeing, growth, and development of everyone behind our work.

Why This Matters

“At our core, Eco Green Group is a people business,” says Keith Hills, our founder. “Our projects depend on the creativity, expertise, and collaboration of the team behind them.”

As we’ve grown, it’s become increasingly clear that the same energy we put into sustainable innovation must also go into building a sustainable workplace. The construction industry faces significant challenges around mental health, with high percentages of depression, anxiety, and mental health-related issues being reported. The need for better wellbeing and inclusive workplace practices has never been more urgent.

A Business Can’t Call Itself Sustainable If It Burns Out Its People

This simple truth drives our approach. Hills explains: “The appointment of a Head of People & Culture is about making wellbeing central to how we operate. We want our team to feel valued, supported, and heard.”

Our people feel proud of what they do and safe in how they do it. Embedding wellbeing into our daily culture isn’t just good ethics – it’s good business. When our team thrives, so do our projects and our clients.

Finding the Right Person for the Role

“That’s why it was so important to us that we found someone like Joanne with working knowledge, experience and belief in the importance of people,” Hills notes.

Tierney brings a wealth of experience from further education, investment banking, and the British Medical Association. She has also volunteered with the Citizen’s Advice Bureau and currently serves as a trustee at HARP, Southend’s largest homeless charity; a testament to her genuine commitment to supporting people.

What’s Next

In her role at Eco Green Group, Tierney will focus on building strong internal frameworks for wellbeing, professional growth, and community outreach as we continue to expand.

“What really attracted me to Eco Green Group was the genuine belief that people and sustainability should always come first,” Tierney shares.

The creation of this People & Culture role comes at a crucial time for the construction industry. As the sector continues to face significant challenges around mental health and wellbeing, we’re committed to leading by example – proving that sustainable business practices extend far beyond environmental responsibility.

Because ultimately, a truly sustainable business is one that takes care of its people just as thoughtfully as it cares for the planet.
