At Eco Green Group, we believe that wellbeing and sustainability go hand in hand, even on the busiest construction sites. One of our recent collaborations with Mace at 30 Duke Street in London perfectly demonstrates how a simple green initiative can make a lasting impact.
Bringing Nature to the Construction Site
Inside the site entrance at 30 Duke Street, a vibrant PlantBox™ living wall has been installed to enhance air quality and support the wellbeing of everyone on site. What was once a functional space is now a striking focal point, and a living reminder that nature belongs everywhere, even in the most high-intensity working environments.
The project began with a joint survey between the teams at Mace and Eco Green Group. The aim was clear: create a visual landmark that improves the environment, lifts morale, and helps the workforce feel valued.
Fast, Efficient and Sustainable Installation
From delivery to completion, the living wall took just 90 minutes to install. This is a testament to the efficiency of the stackable, modular PlantBox™ system by Growing Revolution.

The plants chosen were all low-light tolerant species, thriving in the area’s 1,000-lux light level to ensure healthy growth with minimal intervention.
About the PlantBox™ System
PlantBox™ is a scalable system built for real-world use. Each module includes an inbuilt irrigation reservoir that holds up to 1.8L of water, allowing the plants to flourish with minimal maintenance.
For internal applications like this one, watering is required only once a month, providing a high-impact, low-maintenance solution for busy construction environments.
Sustainability is also at the heart of the design. Made in the UK from 100% recycled materials, PlantBox™ supports UK manufacturing and prevents post-consumer waste from ending up in landfill. With a design life of over 10 years, it’s a durable, reusable system that can easily be relocated when a project reaches completion – ready to green another site or even become a permanent feature within the finished building.
Measurable Benefits for People and Place
The benefits of introducing greenery on site go far beyond aesthetics. For the workforce at 30 Duke Street, the new living wall contributes to:
- Cleaner air – plants help to filter dust and particulates, improving overall air quality.
- Reduced stress – green spaces are proven to calm the mind and support mental wellbeing.
- Improved mood and focus – access to nature is linked to higher morale, reduced fatigue, and lower risk of anxiety or depression.
- Faster recovery – taking breaks near greenery can aid both mental and physical restoration.
- Enhanced morale – when employers invest in wellbeing, staff feel valued, engaged, and motivated.
- Positive reputation – initiatives like this help companies such as Mace demonstrate visible commitment to sustainability, innovation, and ESG principles.

Partnership in Action
This project highlights the power of partnership between contractors, designers, and sustainability experts; all working towards a shared goal of improving workplace wellbeing.
“Creating a suitable working environment for our personnel and delivery partners is crucial. The wellbeing of our staff can be increased with the use of various initiatives and using nature and greenery is something I have always been very passionate about on my projects.
It was great to share this vision with Eco Green Roof who were proactive and engaging resulting in this green wall being installed at 30 Duke Street. PlantBox™ was incredibly easy to install, and I am already planning more greenery to be added. This is a great example of collaboration via the use of the Construction Playbook as the plan was developed through one of the action plans agreed at project launch.”
– Sal Capotosto, Project Director, Mace
“It’s fantastic to partner with Mace on an initiative that not only greens construction sites but also supports workforce wellbeing. The construction phase is often overlooked, but with PlantBox we can bring nature onto site and give teams that vital connection throughout the build. Even on the tightest sites, it’s a simple, scalable way to add greenery to projects nationwide.”
– Keith Hills, Founding Director, Eco Green Group
Greening the Construction Phase
The 30 Duke Street green wall is just one example of how Eco Green Group is helping leading contractors embed biophilic design principles into every phase of development, not just the finished building.
By integrating nature into construction sites, we’re not only improving day-to-day working environments but also setting new standards for how sustainability and wellbeing can coexist in the built environment.
